Coca Cola Championship: Burnley and Conventry draw even with fortunate Equaliser

Coventry on Tuesday evening nearly defeated Burnley, but the home team managed a last minute home draw thanks to Chris Eagles the substitute who managed the equalizer.

Clarets though in the initial 20 minutes started with a forceful spell of corners, but unfortunately could not convert them into a real threat for the visiting goalkeeper Keiren Westwood except one header from a corner. There was a constant expectation and a strong feeling the first goal of the match from Blake with Elliott who would unlock the back line of the visitors.

But as half time approached Burnley got a rude shock as Jordan who was at the left back grossly misjudged a cross field shot and it was picked up by Henderson who drove the ball and lofted it for a cross to Leon Best at far post. He firmly converted the same into a goal and Coventry went into half time leading by one goal.

Second half was then started with renewed vigour by Burnley when Robbie Blake replaced Paterson and Westwood was first tested when Blake played to Alexander on the boxes edge, which was just taken by the keeper 2 yards away from the goal. Then Blake gave Burnley another chance which should have been converted in an equalizer, when he picked free kick from Alexander and passed it to Thompson after slicing through Coventry’s defence which went over the top of the bar. The Burnley football manager’s truly intuitive and spontaneous decision to replace Thompson, Jordan and Blake by Rodriguez, Eagles and McDonald paid off in the final moments of the match when Rodriguez flicked to Eagles who lifted over the keeper; ending the match with a home draw.
